Where did you come from where did you go? The journey and yes it is a journey started around 17 years ago I returned to fly fishing but the Trout5ing was just shooting fish in a barrel.
A work colleague took me carp fishing and I loved every minute of it absorbed all of 5e information I could glean and started following that path but the fly rod was calling after watching a chap out fish me 6-1 on a fly rod I knew where I was going.
Carp on the fly was the epitome of the sport for me but there are hurdles and mistakes along the way finding waters was difficult at the start as many didn’t allow fly fishing for the species I wanted this has changed over the years thankfully. Fast forward 17 years around 40 different rods and reels the search for the perfect rod and reel.
Now after all the species I have chased around various locations I have returned to what drove me back then Carp Pike Perch Bream many often being a by catch of carp fly fishing,
But why? Fun fun and more fun Carp are prevalent all over the uk they fight harder than trout and salmon fishing is accessible for all and cheap. You don’t need 10 different rods and reels it took me 17 years to accept that being a slight tackle tart.
So much so I own 8wt rods for Carp and Perch and 10wt for specific Pike and heavy cover fishing for Carp or if I am chasing a large fishing I go to the 10wt as you will need it in cover trust me.
There are no rules! Make your own journey make your own rules accept nothing as gospel and enjoy the trip
